Bantling Lime Kilns
Leadgate's News for March 2008, Issue 3/08, had an interesting feature on the front page, about the Bantling Lime Kilns, how they looked, look now and might look in future. Other than that the kilns were built in 1835 and had a relativerly short life, closing in 1850, we didn't know much more, other than they look impressive, even now after only Phase 1 restoration and will look even better later - if we keep the vandals and graffiti artists off.
That set us to thinking not only how much more we might yet find out if we share, which as you know is a recurring theme of ours, but how we might try again to make it easier to share, ergo this webpage.
If you can tell us more about the history of this kiln or indeed how kilns like this were worked, please tell us more with a comment which we can incorporate into the webpage and indeed share your images with us.
We will ask the Leadgate Area Partnership again whether we can share their full newsletter, Leadgate's News, on which this feature and other local news is, on a separate part of the website, posting their imags in a "Bantling Kilns" Photo Album.
